Dominic Kimitta

Dominic is a poet based in Kajiado County who writes and produces poems on Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), teenage pregnancies and child marriage. He is a Program Associate at NAYA (Network of Adolescents and Youth of Africa) Kajiado County and leads innovative and creative approaches to ending FGM, teenage pregnancy and child marriage. He also volunteers as a radio panellist on Radio Taifa where he performs his poetic pieces and engages listeners in discussions regarding lifestyle and youth engagement.

He was the chief facilitator in the alternative rites of passage girl child training on the effects of FGM in Samburu Kenya, by Amref Health Africa 2016. Dominic was awarded Best Urban Swahili Poet at the “KUMIKUMI” Awards held in Nairobi Kenya, as well as Anti FGM activist award by the Guardian UK under the Global Media Campaign.
