Y-ACT is an initiative by Amref Health Africa and the Advocacy Accelerator that works with partners and communities across the country to strengthen the voice, skills and participation of youth across Kenya
to advocate for youth-identified policy and resource priorities in the areas of gender equality and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) at national, sub-national and grassroots levels.
Young people under the age of 35 account for 70 percent of Kenya’s population. However, theyface significant challenges in realizing their potential; including a 55 percent unemployment rate, particularly among young women. Kenyan youth have a huge opportunity to shift the county’s policy landscape to address challenges in gender and Sexual and Reproductive Health & Rights (SRHR).
This comes at a time when the importance of their role and the potential for policy improvement is at its greatest. The impact of youth advocacy is often hindered by a lack of skills, tools and resources to implement plans and action. There are also limited mechanisms for identifying, connecting, and engaging youth in strategic advocacy across the country.
